Rudra POV
I tried to sleep, but my mind refused to quiet down. Thoughts kept swirling, memories creeping in when I least expected them. I turned to my side, exhaling deeply, forcing myself to relax. Slowly, sleep took over, pulling me into its depths.
And then, I was back in the past.
FLASHBACK
It was a rushed morning—I was late for college. My heartbeat pounded in my ears as I sprinted through the campus, not bothering to look ahead. My only focus was reaching class on time. But then—
Crash!
I collided with someone hard, and the next thing I knew, I was falling. The world tilted, and before I could react, both of us were on the ground. My palms scraped against the pavement, and irritation flared inside me. I was just about to curse when my eyes landed on her.
Time stilled.
She was beautiful. Not in an obvious way, but in a way that made the world around her fade. Her wide eyes, filled with surprise, met mine. A few strands of hair framed her face, the morning sun casting a soft glow on her skin. For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.
Then, she extended her hand toward me, a silent gesture to help me up. That simple action snapped me out of my trance.
By the time I realized what had happened, she had already stood up. "Sorry," she mumbled before quickly walking away.
I could only sit there, staring at her retreating figure, unable to move, unable to speak.
And just like that, in a single unexpected moment, my life had changed forever.
I tried to sleep, but the moment I closed my eyes, my mind refused to settle. The weight of the evening, the exhaustion of countless conversations, and the swirl of emotions inside me wouldn't let me rest. I turned to my side, inhaling deeply, forcing my body to relax. But it was useless. The silence of my room felt too loud, my thoughts too restless.
I let out a slow breath, staring at the ceiling. The dim glow of the night lamp cast faint shadows on the walls, and for a while, I just listened to the stillness around me. Slowly, as fatigue took over, my body gave in. My breathing evened out, and the pull of sleep finally dragged me under.
And then, I was somewhere else.
Back in the past.
It was a usual morning, except for the fact that I was late. Again.
The moment I glanced at my watch, my heart skipped a beat. Damn, I should have left fifteen minutes ago! I grabbed my bag and rushed out of my house, barely stopping to lock the door. My bike was parked a little far away, and I knew if I wasted another minute, I wouldn't make it in time.
So, I ran.
The roads were familiar, the trees lining the sidewalk blurred past me as I sprinted toward the campus gates. My breath came in quick bursts, my bag bouncing against my shoulder, but I didn't stop. The last thing I needed was another late remark.
My legs moved on instinct, weaving through the crowd of students entering the college. I didn't bother looking ahead—there wasn't time for that. I just needed to—
Crash!
Before I could react, I slammed into something—or rather, someone. The impact was sudden and jarring. I lost my balance, and in the next second, both of us were tumbling down.
Time seemed to slow as I hit the ground, my hands scraping against the rough pavement. My books scattered, the strap of my bag slipping from my shoulder. A sharp sting shot up my arm, but before I could even process the pain, I felt someone else beside me.
A soft gasp. A quiet intake of breath.
I lifted my gaze, ready to lash out. The words were already at the tip of my tongue—a frustrated curse, an annoyed complaint. But then... I saw her.
And everything else faded.
For a moment, I forgot how to breathe.
She was sitting across from me, her expression a mix of shock and amusement. A few loose strands of hair framed her face, catching the morning sunlight just right. Her eyes—deep, expressive—held a flicker of surprise as they met mine. It wasn't just her beauty that caught me off guard. It was something else. Something in the way she looked at me, unaware of the way she had completely stolen my focus.
I blinked, my mind struggling to catch up.
She was saying something—I could see her lips moving—but my brain wasn't registering the words. It was as if the world had gone mute for a few seconds, as if the universe had paused just for me to take in this moment.
Then, she did something that made my breath hitch.
She extended her hand toward me.
It was such a simple gesture, but at that moment, it felt like everything. A silent invitation. A wordless offering of help.
For a second, I just stared at her outstretched palm, unable to react. Her fingers were slender, delicate, yet there was something firm in the way she held them out—confident, effortless.
Then, as if shaking off a trance, I reached out.
Just as my hand was about to touch hers—
She pulled away.
Not intentionally, not out of rejection—just because she had already stood up. She dusted off her clothes, gave me a small nod, and before I could even gather my senses, she mumbled a quick, "Sorry," and walked away.
And I just sat there, watching her go.
I didn't even realize I was still on the ground, my palms pressed against the pavement, my heart racing for reasons I couldn't understand.
She disappeared into the crowd, her figure fading among the sea of students rushing to their classes. I knew I should move, should pick up my things and get going, but for some reason, I stayed frozen in place, my mind replaying those few seconds over and over again.
Who was she?
Why did a simple encounter—one that should have frustrated me—leave me feeling like I had just experienced something significant?
I had bumped into countless people before. Apologized, cursed, moved on. But this time... this time, it felt different.
It felt like something had shifted.
Like something had begun.
I didn't know her name. I didn't know anything about her.
But I knew one thing—I wasn't going to forget this moment anytime soon.
FLASHBACK END
I woke up with a jerk, my heart pounding in my chest. My eyes darted around the room, disoriented for a moment, before realization sank in.
It wasn't just a dream.
It was a memory.
A reality that once belonged to me but was now nothing more than something I could only relive in my mind. My first meeting with Maher—so vivid, so real—and yet, she was nowhere in my present.
I let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through my hair. Shaking off the lingering emotions, I dragged myself to the bathroom. After my morning routine, I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my tie.
Being the CEO of one of the top five companies sucks a lot.
Glancing at the clock, I sighed. Time to survive another day in this madhouse.
